Ayurveda Food & Nutrition Consultant Certification

(IUYA) is proud to introduce a Ayurvedic Food and Nutrition Consultant Program for Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultants, Ayurvedic Wellness Coaches, Ayurvedic Practitioners, 500 hours level Registered Yoga Teachers, and other health care professionals at Twin Ponds Integrative Health Center, Breiningsville, Pennsylvania, USA. This training program is based on the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) Benchmarks for training in traditional / complementary and alternative medicine: benchmarks for training in Ayurveda & Government of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Department of Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH), New Delhi, India. (Reference Number: D.O. NO. 480 /Adviser (Ayurveda) / 2009, May 1st, 2009), and is approved by International University of Yoga and Ayurveda and Association of Ayurvedic Professionals of North America (AAPNA), Inc. Highlights of the training program

1. Study with both an ayurvedic doctor (vaidya) and a medical doctor at the same time.

2. Hands-on Vegetarian, Sattvic, Cooking Classes divided into 3 days, over a period of 15 days (each module 5 days)

3. 14 Webinars (2 hours each) will be conducted by experienced internationally renowned ayurvedic doctors (vaidyas).

The Ayurvedic Food & Nutrition Consultant (AFNC) Certification Program is a 500-hour course, divided into three modules, which take place over a period of 4 months and include hands-on vegetarian cooking training, distant learning webinars and home study.

This program will provide 150 hours of cooking training, 28 hours of webinar instruction, 30 hours of education at an ayurveda: food and nutrition conference, and 292 hours of home study, quizzes, assignments, and projects, complying with the requirements of the Ayurvedic Food and Nutrition Consultant Certificate Course as outlined by Association of Ayurvedic Professionals of North America, Inc. (AAPNA).

Importance of foods in Yogic practices

Prerequisites – Completion of certification in a Yoga Alliance approved 500-hour Teacher Training or any other health professional training to ensure understanding of basic fundamental principles of ayurveda, yoga and health.

Upon completion of this certification course, participants will:

Know the in-depth training ayurvedic foods and nutriton and cooking and how to apply these principles and practices to their own lives.

Be able to make recommendations to clients regarding modifications in their lifestyles, food, nutrition and healthy cooking according to their individual constitutions to restore balance to their lives.

Students will receive student membership certificate from AAPNA (Association of Ayurvedic Professionals of North America), Inc.

Be eligible to apply these credits toward becoming a Registered Ayurvedic Food & Nutrition Consultant (RAFNC) by the Association of Ayurvedic Professionals of North America, Inc. (AAPNA).

FACULTY

Shekhar Annambhotla, BAMS, MDAYURVED, LMT, ERYT-500, RMAS, Pennsylvania, USA has been practicing and teaching ayurveda worldwide since 1988. Dr. Shekhar is the Founding Director of Ojas, LLC, Ayurveda Wellness Center, in Pennsylvania, President of Association of Ayurvedic Professionals of North America (AAPNA) and Director of Global Ayurveda Conferences, LLC, USA.

Vijay Jain, MD, FACS, RIAP, Florida, USA brings more than 38 years of experience in General Surgery and 17 years of focused study of Integrative Medicine to his engaging integration of traditional/Western medicine with ancient medicine and well-tried systems of healing from different cultures. In addition to his surgery practice, Dr. Jain lectures on Ayurveda Principles and Practices and how to create Optimal Health. His main interest is in the science of graceful aging as it relates to holistic medical practices.

Samina Ahmad, MBBS, RALC, HHP, New York, USA graduate of the University of Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan with a Medical Doctor degree, she began her medical career as an Internal Medicine Physician in the Senior Gastroenterology Department . Later she accepted an appointment with the National Institute of Child Health.Thereafter, she started her own practice - Family Practice Health Care Clinic for Women and Children. Comparable to a Martha Stewart of Pakistan, for many years, Dr. Ahmad hosted television programs on healthful cooking, family issues and nutrition. She has graduated as a Health Counselor and qualified for national certification as a Holistic Health Practitioner by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. She also received a certificate of completion for educational outreach from the Teachers College of Columbia University. Dr.Samina is a Chopra University certified Perfect Health Consultant and Ayurvedic Lifestyle Coach and runs her Wellness Center called ''Samina's Wellness'' in New York. Dr. Samina Ahmad is presently the Business Manager for Junoon, (www.Junoon.com) a highly acclaimed, internationally renowned, Pakistani rock band that specializes in Sufi music promoting peace throughout the world. Samina, along with her husband Salman have launched their new york based ngo the Salman and Samina Global Wellness Initiative [www.ssgwi.org].

Dhanada Kulkarni, BAMS, Texas, USA is the Owner, Founder and Director of Soham Ayur Yoga and an experienced health practitioner, ayurvedic specialist, master yoga therapist, vedic astrologer and vastu consultant. She has been very active in promoting ayurveda and other ancient Indian vedic sciences at various forums in the USA over the last 9 years. She serves on the boards of several organizations including AAPNA, Kalidas Sanskrit University of Maharashtra, India. She has been honored with many international awards including Jivaka, Patanjali & Dhanwantari. Dhanada has been an international keynote speaker, presenter and integrated medicine panel expert for many organizations.

Priyatarssini Balamurugen, BAMS, MSc., DNYS, New Jersey, USA is a practitioner of ayurveda, marma, naturopathy, yoga & acupuncture and has successfully integrated all these systems in her practice for the past 15 years. She is faculty member at International University of Yoga and Ayurveda's psychology program. She presently serves as a Research Scientist at WISE (World Institute of Scientific Exploration), an organization for conducting, leading, and promoting groundbreaking scientific research and investigations in countries worldwide. She has presented papers and conducted workshops at universities like NJIT and written articles on ayurveda, ojas and conscious living. She is also a master and instructor in Simplified Kundalini Yoga (SKY), a scientific system of conscious living directed towards individual peace, leading to world peace, which she learnt directly from her guru, Vethathiri Maharishi over the last 20 years.

Ashlesha Raut, BAMS, MDAYURVED, Illinois, USA is a Consulting Ayurvedic Practitioner and Nutritional Consultant with more than 15 years of experience in the field of ayurveda, healthcare and integrative medicine. She is a Registered Master Ayurvedic Specialist (RMAS). She earned the distinctive honor, a gold medal, for her thesis. Ashlesha completed her N.C. (Nutritional Consultant) and HHP (Holistic Health Practitioner) with high honors in the USA. She also completed her ‘Second Degree Reiki Program’ in the USA. Ashlesha has been presented with the Association of Ayurvedic Professionals of North America award of “Charaka” in recognition of her excellence in teaching ayurveda. Presently, she is a Director of Ayurveda at “Ayurveda For Healing” and “Main Street Yoga” where she practices ayurveda and is actively involved in promoting ayurveda globally.

Vivek Shanbhag, BAMS, MDAYURVED, ND, California, USA is a renowned ayurvedic specialist, professor, researcher, author & entrepreneur. For more than 30 years, he has successfully run various businesses and institutions for promoting ayurveda in India, USA & Japan. Currently, Dr. Shanbhag is a faculty member of Bastyr University in Seattle, USA, MMI College of Ayurveda, San Francisco, USA and Sai Ayurvedic College, Miami USA. He is also a Faculty Member & Advisor for Japan Ayurveda Association, Tokyo, Japan. In 1988, he was awarded the prestigious I.I.M. Gold Medal for his MDAYURVED research thesis. In 2008, International Academy of Ayurveda Physicians honored him with the Vishwa Ayurveda Ratna Award. In 2010, he won the Charaka & Dhanwantari Awards for Excellence in Ayurvedic Teaching and Ayurvedic Practice by the Association of Ayurvedic Professionals of North America. Dr. Shanbhag’s 16 years of education in ayurveda, naturopathic medicine & yoga include 4 years ND at Bastyr University USA, 4 ½ years MD (Ayurved) at Poona University, 5 ½ years BAMS at Karnataka University and 2 years Certified Yoga Teacher Training at Karnataka University.

Devika Deshmukh, BAMS, MDAYURVED, California, USA is a second generation vaidya whose parents, Drs. Ramesh and Shubhada Deshmukh, run the renowned Kerala Ayurvedic Clinic in 3 locations in Mumbai. Her MDAYURVED research thesis was “Comparative study on the effect of nasya karma and greeva basti with ksheera bala taila in greeva hundanam with special reference to cervical spondylosis”. While working as a consultant for Kerala Ayurvedic Clinic in Mumbai, she taught Panchakarma at the University of Mumbai. She has taught Panchakarma classes to the students of Middlesex University, United Kindgom and done research presentations at ayurvedic seminars in Karnataka and in national conferences.

Sneha Kalaskar, BAMS, MDAYURVED, California, USA has completed her under graduation (R. A. Podar-Mumbai) and masters (I.P.G.T. & R.A.-Jamnagar) from top most institutes of India. Her main field of work is in subject Dravyaguna i.e. Medicinal plants and their pharmacology. She completed MD-Ayurveda research thesis on Patala and its comparative phytopharmacological study with one of its substitute. Her research has been published in different international journals like Universal Journal of Pharmacy (UJP), American Journal of Pharmacy and Health Research (AJPHR) etc. She has actively held poster and oral presentations in different institutes during her education.

Gauri Junnarkar, BAMS, MS, RD, LD, CDE, RAAP, Texas, USA is the founder of ‘Ayurnutrition’, an integrative nutrition practice. She is an Ayurveda Specialist and a Registered/Licensed Dietitian. She earned her BAMS Bachelor of Ayurveda degree from the University of Mumbai. She also holds a Master of Science degree in Nutrition from Texas Woman’s University. Her expertise includes Ayurveda, Panchakarma, Nutrition and Diabetes education. She integrates Ayurveda principles with Nutrition in her daily practice. Ms. Junnarkar teaches nutrition courses to undergraduate students and works as a Certified Diabetes Educator at diabetes center in Dallas Fort Worth area. Ms. Junnarkar’s background in Ayurveda inspired her to do her master’s thesis research on “Dietary Curcumin (phytochemical in Turmeric) and its effect in Melanoma (skin cancer)”, which was selected at the national conference on Experimental Biology under “Diet and Cancer” and also at the Texas Dietetic Association conference. Ms. Junnarkar has given a number of presentations on Ayurveda to faculty and students at Texas Woman’s University and various dietitian associations in Dallas. She is a faculty member at International University of Yoga and Ayurveda. Ms. Junnarkar is a committee member for AAPNA (Ayurvedic Professionals of North America). She also writes articles on Ayurveda and nutrition.
